important aspects of the site.
After building the site and going live, within three months the new site was on the first page of Google, in the top 4 search results for the main keywords (Naples wedding photographers). That’s non-paid organic search results.
Next up: the newly-redesigned website, launched in August of this year.
4. Continuing to support the brand and user-experience we had originally built, but updating it with a facelift, thus keeping it fresh in the client’s mind
5. Incorporating social media into the website and blog to make it easier for customers and potential clients to connect with the brand and business
An iPad Friendly Site In business, you either keep up or you get left behind. This is especially true of businesses that serve a younger market (for example the wedding industry) and businesses that implement technology (photographers and videographers). Digital photography changed the industry completely and if you didn’t keep up, you got left behind. The same thing can be said of a business' use of technology: if your site isn’t working on the newer browsers or your site isn’t working on the new displays brides and grooms are using now, chances are you could be turning off clients with an outdated presentation. Let’s face it, technology paves the road we take and we can either walk down that road or take the road that leads nowhere!
So what did we do differently for the site, 3 years later? For starters, the technology had changed and in crept a little something called the iPad. And people were really surfing on mobile devices just about anywhere they could get reception.
Since the iPad was already being used heavily in marketing during client meetings, in product offerings and for personal use, we saw an immediate need to build a website that would work effortlessly on the iPad.
Functionality was critical, as was maintaining that first-page Google rank, while updating the brand’s look.
So the second time around, these were the considera- tions and goals we adhered to:
1. A site that was iPad friendly 2. Keeping that first-page Google rank for keywords
3. Incorporating high-quality slideshows using techniques that ensured the video could be played on any monitor, any browser, any operating system and any mobile device, iPads included

Part of staying up to date was removing all use of Flash in the new site. Since Mobile devices do not play Flash, that meant a good deal of the old site was not viewable: the galleries! So Flash was out!
That also meant any video that used the fall-back method of Flash to play, would not work either, so we implemented HTML5 so that all video would work in any browser, any computer OS (operating system) and any mobile device.
Search engine ranking did take a hit as the entire site was completely rebuilt from the ground up. Search engine rank dropped for about 5 weeks, but after that, rank was stronger than the first site, with a second and first place ranking for selected keywords.
The bottom line is that as with anything, upkeep is a must if you want peak performance on your investment. Refreshing your online presence is a relatively economical way to do just that.
