Sylvia and husband Ben have been married 61 years and have built the business together. After Ben retired from the prac- tice of law, he helped to build some of the earliest structures and was the architect for many of the larger cakes.

Behind the Scenes at Sylvia Weinstock Cakes in Tribeca, you’ll find artisans working away creating gorgeous life-like cake flowers. “I never use real flowers,” says Sylvia with concerns for pesticides touching the cake. “I want everything to be edible.” And all of her cakes are buttercream—no fondant. She notes that it takes more skill to get that smooth look with buttercream but that it can be achieved.
