Pinoy booters can overcome Indonesians

BY JOSEF T. RAMOS CORRESPONDENT

“IF the Philippines did it in Vietnam, it can also be done in Indonesia.” Johnny Romualdez, the chairman emeritus of the Philippine Football Federation (PFF), was referring to the country’s football team shocking Vietnam at home, 2-0, in Hanoi during the battle between the two sides for a semifinal slot in the Suzuki Cup last week. Romualdez was also citing possibility that the Filipino footballers, who call themselves Azkals (a prettified spelling of the combined and abbreviated “aso” and “kalsada”) in apparent self- depreciation, can beat their Indonesian rivals when they clash in the Round of Four later this month also at home in Jakarta.
