CERTIFICATES AND AUTHORIZATIONS Healthcare Information Technology


The CSUSM College of Business Administration, in collaboration with Extended Learning, is pleased to offer the Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Certificate Program.


Program Overview:


Te Healthcare Information Technology (HIT) Certificate Program is designed to provide training for positions in the rapidly evolving and expanding field of information technology in the health care sector. Te program focuses on skills necessary to plan, implement, and manage HIT systems. Participants will have the opportunity to focus their studies in two program tracks: Healthcare Information Systems and Managing Healthcare Information Systems.


Tis interactive program integrates theory and real world application. Course sessions will engage students with University faculty and industry subject matter experts from a variety of organizations and industry associations.


Participants can anticipate career opportunities in positions such as information research technician, system analysis, implementation and maintenance, and project management. Specific applications include electronic medical and health records, on-line prescription ordering and databases, health decision support systems, and HIT networks. Target industries are health service providers including hospitals, clinics, physician and physician groups; pharmaceutical and prescription benefit management companies; and HIT support companies and consultants.


Program Schedule:


Tis program is uniquely structured to accommodate the busy schedules of working adults. Each program track will start and end with an intensive two-day “boot camp” followed by a one night a week and Saturday schedule. Te entire certificate can be completed in two semesters (approximately 8 months).
