Global Teacher Studies and Preparation: International Baccalaureate Primary and Middle Years Programme
Programme Overview
In response to the overarching need to bring an international perspective and deeper understanding of people and their culture to the classrooms, CSUSM now offers courses of study recognized by the International Baccalaureate. Tese courses develop teachers’ understanding of the principles and practices associated with the IB Primary Years and Middle Years Programmes. Students who successfully complete one of these courses of study are eligible to apply and register for the level 1 IB teacher award. Te program prepares local teachers (K-10) to serve in schools that implement the IB curriculum.
Te International Baccalaureate (IB) aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect. Te IB encourages students to ask challenging questions, to critically reflect, to develop research skills, to learn how to learn, and to participate in community service.
Audience
Te candidates for this course of study are newly credentialed teachers, experienced teachers, teacher leaders, site administrators, teachers already working at IB World Schools, and teachers new to IB.
Programme Logistics
Te Global Teacher Studies and Preparation: International Baccalaureate Primary and Middle Years Programme is a sequence of four classes over two semesters. Participants will choose a program path focusing on either the Primary years (PYP) or the Middle Years (MYP). Our convenient and affordable hybrid program, with curriculum offered through online and face-to-face meetings, allows greater access and collaboration with local educators. Te successful completion of this course of study qualifies participants to apply for the IB Teacher Award, a certificate that verifies the candidate has completed the comprehensive training to work in an International Baccalaureate PYP or MYP World School.
Academic Credit
Each prospective student is required to Academic units earned in this program may be applied to CSUSM’s Masters of Arts in Education: General Option.
