We begin this “How To” with a base color of PPG Harlequin Blue to Red color shift paint on Harley sheet metal. The Harlequin has been applied over a black base with three coats of clear over that. After allowing the clear coat to cure it was wet sanded with eight hundred grit sand paper preparing the surface for the art work we are about to add.
For masking purposes on this project I will use Metal Flake Spray Mask applying two to three coats with a brush than allow it to dry for twenty four hours. Note I use masking tape as a border to as- sist in easy removal of the spray mask when the time comes.
To lay out the flame pattern I use a stencil made out of paper.
I
free hand drawn the flame pattern out on the paper and than cut it out. After positioning the flame stencil on the sheet metal I apply a light coat of contrasting white which when the stencil is removed leaves the flame pattern on the surface. With my flame pattern in place on the spray mask I use an X actco knife and very careful cut the pattern out.
With the flames now cut out of the spray mask I spray mix a of House of Kolor White and Snow White Pearl using an RG-2 over the flames. Once this is dry I mix some House of Kolor Neutral Marblizer and Graphite Pearl and lightly dab it on over the White/ Snow White in a random pattern.
