6. Next I will use tinting black over the darkest areas of the body, and lightly outline the door jams and body lines. I also use the black on the tires and hood stripe, and to darken the voids in the grill and wheels. I shade in parts of the con- vertible top and interior. I added a black line inside the transparent orange “502” number as well to help define the number.
7. At this point I notice that the hori- zon reflection is much to predominate for my liking so using opaque white I tone the reflection down a little. The fi- nal step is to use the opaque white to bring out the highlighted areas and to add what will be the light bursts. I also add more definition to the wheels, lights, and text using this same white. Use your reference photo again to see what areas should be highlighted, and what areas just need some light fades.
To ensure your paint will last longer, spray a coat of transparent extender over the entire painted surface, and heat set it as normal. This will help retain the color wash after wash. To see more of Dean’s work check his web site out
