The tree and the pyramid basecoats are first painted with a sponge, they could also be airbrushed however, I prefer the look that you can achieve with the sponging process… (more texture). I pour some red, green, white, purple, yel- low, and black out for my pallet. I then mix the colors with my sponge and drag them across the surface of the vinyl mesh (red green and a little yellow make brown). A trick I use is to use yellow tones on the sunlit side and purple tones for reverse highlights on the dark side.
After sketching in my characters I start to fill in foreground elements working from light to dark using my airbrush. I also add detail to the pyramid and the tree airbrushing over the initial sponge painting.
The final task is the fun part. I add the details and clean up the edges bringing everything together.
