10 Questions with... John Blasco

Managing Director, Hotelcare Ltd.

Q3Who, in any other industry, do you most admire?

I admire professional sports people in general. I happen to know a couple of professional sportsmen quite well and I always find their professionalism, dedication and willpower very inspirational and grounding.

Q4If money was no object, what car would you buy?

Each month we ask an industry professional the Tomorrow’s FM 10 Questions. This month, we chatted to John Blasco, Managing Director, Hotelcare Ltd.

Q1 What was your first job? It was polishing marble floors and shampooing carpets for my father’s company. He used to take me to work with him at the weekend to teach me the ropes.

Q2How did you get into the Facilities Management industry?

Through my father who bought Officecare in the 1980s – later to become Hotelcare. I left university and went straight in to the company.

A Pagani Zonda. I had the pleasure of sitting in one once and it’s stuck with me.

Q5How would you improve the Facilities Management industry?

I think an annual open forum between contractors, HMRC/ Immigration, hoteliers and an independent body such as the BHA (British Hospitality Association) would be incredibly powerful. This would allow topics such as how best to ensure national minimum wage payment.
