Six-Pack of BIG I

t was the usual lunch, at John Taffi n’s favorite Mexican restaurant in Boise, ID. Several years ago, before I moved from Eastern Oregon, back to the wet side of the state, Taffi n and I would, have lunch together about once a month. I

love the ol’ guy; he’s like the older (much older) brother I never had. However, as of late, I’ve been starting to wonder about him. It was during the big burrito lunch that I heard “44” shouted out. At fi rst, I thought I was just imagining it, until it hap- pened again, “44” and every- one in the restaurant turned and looked at our table. I looked around, too — trying to throw the lunch crowd off my making ‘em think it came from another table.

were, I wouldn’t be eating in public with Taffi n — fi rst thing he does, just to get it “out of the way,” as he says, is to get some salsa spilled onto his Cabela’s Serengeti Safari shirt. I can live with that — been there, done that. However, when ol’ Taffi n started shouting out “44” for no apparent rea- son, I was getting more than a little concerned. No wonder Diamond Dot, John’s lovely wife, doesn’t go out to lunch with John any more, I can understand it, I really can. When I questioned Taffi n about the outburst, he denied he said anything. I don’t think he realized he was doing it. Since moving away, I’ve gotten a

bit more concerned with the “44” out- burst from Taffi n because of his daily emails to me, as well as our phone conversations. I’m not even sure there is a cure for this sort of thing — other than to jump on the bandwagon — the .44 bandwagon that is. As far as Taffi n is concerned,

you don’t own at least one .44 caliber handgun of some type, you’re pretty much un-American. No sense trying to argue with the ol’ boy about this — I believe it’s written in concrete, as far as he’s concerned. I collected a pile of .44s to see for
