controls, trigger, multi-caliber adapt- ability, and “feel” is a huge bonus for moving between SIG P250 configura- tions for practitioners of concealed carry or transitioning between full- size duty weapons to more compact firearms when off-duty. I experienced no malfunctions with

the SIG P250 in any configuration while test firing 700-plus rounds dur- ing range visits. Loads fired spanned 115-gr. to 147-gr. with hollowpoints and FMJ bullet-types utilized … The SIG P250 was tested at the

range first by verifying sight zero and then firing several magazines rapidly at various steel-man targets. This quickly shows if any reliability issues exist. If a defensive pistol isn’t at the very least reliable what good is it? Further testing consisted of strings of fire against steel plate racks and popper targets at 7, 15 and 25 yards. The sights were zeroed in for 25 yards using the classic 6 o’clock hold. Con- sidering the SIG P250’s primary role as a defensive handgun, I decided to evaluate it using some skills I learned

in a point-shooting course. To clarify, point shooting isn’t random, mindless firing from the hip substituting mass of fire for accuracy. Point shooting is “aimed” by means other than your sights. Other indexes are used such as the slide orientation below your line of sight, shoulder alignment, wrist cant and forearm positions are all used as aiming references. Hand/eye coordination is a premium when us- ing point-shooting techniques. The natural point ability of the SIG P250 comes into its own in this realm. A flash-sight picture was used in a cou- ple of drills before the handgun was brought even lower from the line of sight, eventually ending up with el- bow anchored in hip socket. The short-grip frame and relative

lightweight of the SIG P250 subcom- pact made recoil more of a factor versus a full-size P250, but in no way unman- ageable. The SIG P250 was also put through its paces by shooting a course designed for a LE competition held ev- ery year at the range I do most of my testing. Multiple targets are engaged from three different positions with mandatory magazine changes between firing positions. I find this gives a good benchmark for time and accuracy by being able to compare it to the average times posted by numerous competi- tors. Even under the induced stress of drawing against a timer and engaging multiple targets, the SIG P250 per- formed smoothly with the DAO trig- ger with no detriment to accuracy or speed of placing multiple hits on target. Both the SIG P250 full size and P250
