year for three main reasons. Firstly, we want to see new products and innovative services, and I regard the exhibition as a launching pad for anyone with new items for the hire industry. The Show also allows you to gauge suppliers. If a company has a well-presented, professional looking stand, then it gives you confidence in them and shows they are ready to do business. And thirdly, it’s great to have a full day away from the normal office routine, meeting other hirers and catching up on industry news. As a specialist flood damage restoration business we will obviously be looking out for the latest drying equipment and dehumidifiers, and we have had particular demand for machines to quickly remove the bitumen backing left by flood-affected floor tiles. It’s important that exhibitors should have people on their stands that really know their products and can answer my specific technical questions about them.

“ Having worked in this demanding

hire business for the last 30 years, one thing is clear: nothing remains the same, and we all have to modify and adapt ourselves and our business offering, to meet the ever changing demands placed on us by our clients. I will definitely be attending the

Show. With the Ricoh Arena being centrally placed, it will appeal to many wishing to keep up to date on all aspects of the hire industry. Although there are always demands on our time, this exhibition will allow me, in just one day, to catch up on the latest hire industry innovations, new products, and to meet colleagues who we both serve and those that serve us.

Paul Hubberstey, Proprietor, Anvil Tool Hire, Leyland

I have been to many hire industry exhibitions over the last 25 years, and I definitely plan to be at the Ricoh again in February. You can see all the latest products and equipment, and I’m always looking for a new line that I can add profitably to the fleet. People can’t ask you for something if they don’t know it’s available, so if I see a product with potential at the Show I can buy it, display it in the shop and get customers talking about it. You have to be pro-active in creating demand. The Show is a great opportunity to

meet up with old industry contacts and share news. Every hire exhibition I’ve visited, I’ve come away with details of a product or a nugget of information that has made it a day truly well spent.

Alan Wilson, Director, Anchor Tool Hire, Bellshill Prior to visiting the Executive Hire Show this year, the last hire industry exhibition I attended was

Hirex back in 1998. I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of kit on display, and it was good to talk to fellow professionals. I met hirers and suppliers I had not seen for a long time. I drove down late on the Tuesday

afternoon, missing the Birmingham rush hour, and had a full day at the Show on the Wednesday. I had another appointment in Sheffield on the return trip, so I made full use of my time. The Ricoh Arena is ideally located in terms of motorway links, the layout is straightforward and parking is easy. We have seen considerable growth in the sales side of our business this year, and I’ll be looking out for retail items we might add, as well as equipment for the hire fleet.

MD Barry Dean, left, with Hire Network colleagues

We should all ensure that the dates for the

2011 Show are well and truly in our diaries. Obviously, the last two years have affected staffing levels and it is all too easy to say it is impossible to take time out to attend. However, in difficult times it is even more important to step back from our businesses and support our industry’s Show. We all need to talk to our suppliers and our competitors. We need to be aware of developments affecting our industry in terms of legislation, Health & Safety and the environment. So I call on all the many suppliers to The Hire Network, both national and independent, to visit the Show. Otherwise, just remember the adage, ‘use it or lose it’.
