Field Hockey Record: 6-8 (0-4 ACC)


l The Blue Devils lost both of their away matches over the weekend, falling on Saturday to No. 2 Maryland and then dropping their contest to No. 10 American on Sunday. l On Saturday, Duke suffered a 3-1 loss to No. 2 ranked Maryland in College Park, Md. l Freshman Emmie Le Marchand pulled Duke within one late in the second half, but the Terrapins netted an insurance goal with just under two minutes remaining. l Le Marchand, Duke’s leading goal scorer for the season, deflected in the shot for her fifth goal this year. Junior Tara Jennings was awarded the assist, her third in 2010. l Senior goalkeeper Samantha Nelson stopped nine Terrapin shots to anchor the Duke defense. l American led the way in shots (18-10), but Duke held the advantage in penalty corners (6-5) as the Eagles utilized two first half goals

to hang on for a 3-1 victory over the Blue Devils Sunday afternoon in Washington, D.C. l Sophomore Devon Gagliardi registered the goal for Duke in the 50th minute of competition as the Wilkes-Barre, Pa., native collected the rebound off a penalty corner shot and found the back of the cage for her first goal of the 2010 season. Freshman Caashia Karringten was credited with the assist, the first of her collegiate career. l Nelson made three saves in the cage for Duke. On the year, Nelson has made 55 saves with a .743 save percentage. l Senior Susan Ferger is second on the team, behind Le Marchand, in total points on the season with 10. Ferger has scored three goals on 12 shots this season. l Duke will return to action Friday, Oct. 15 as the Blue Devils travel to Williamsburg, Va., to face William and Mary at 7 p.m. Duke then heads to Norfolk, Va., for a rematch with Old Dominion on Sunday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.

l Sophomore Ryan Finley leads the team in both goals (10) and total points (22). Finley has attempted 59 shots on the year, 24 of which have been on goal. l As a team, the Blue Devils have attempted 173 shots on the year, 67 of which have been on goal. l The Blue Devils are attempting 15.7 shots per game. l Senior Cole Grossman leads the team in assists with four. Grossman is also second on the team in goals scored (3) and total points (10). l Duke returns to action Oct. 15 when it travels to Santa Barbara, Calif., to take on UC Santa Barbara on Fox Soccer Channel at 11 p.m., EST.


Men’s Soccer Record: 5-2-4 (1-2-2 ACC)


l On Friday night, the men’s soccer team battled to a 0-0 double overtime tie against N.C. State from Raleigh, N.C. It was the fourth tie on the season for the Blue Devils and second in conference play. l The Blue Devils held a narrow edge 10-9 in shots, including a 5-3 advantage in the second half, and had seven corner kicks to NC State’s five. l Sophomore goaltender James Belshaw posted a clean sheet with 5 saves in 110 minutes of action for his fourth shutout of the season. l Duke has outscored its opponents 17-8 on the season with seven goals coming in the first half and 10 in the second. The Blue Devils have not scored an overtime goal on the season. The Blue Devils are averaing 1.55 goals per game in 2010.
