ELITE PERFORMANCE WINS DAIEL TE PERFORMANCE WINS DAY I
n a full bloodied Lancastrian battle that proved a fi tting fi nale to one of the best ever Comms Dealer Five-a-Side football events, Chorley-based Elite Telecom overcame Shine Telecom on penalties to win the 2010 trophy.
But the real winners were the Sparks Children’s Charity who netted £5,500 from the day’s proceeds. The tournament, held at the Goals Soccer Centre in Leicester on September 15th, was generously sponsored by Daisy Communications, who entered four teams and bought along their magnifi cent company Routmaster bus which provided a colourful backdrop to the tournament.
Daisy’s Fiona Ritchie commented: “Despite not making it to the fi nal ourselves we all agreed it was a fantastic day and the support from the channel was superb. We are delighted to have helped Sparks raise valuable charity funds and we are already in training for next year’s event.”
Elite, lost their opening game 4-2 to Chess Telecom, but got their revenge in the semi-fi nal winning 5-0 after overcoming Universal OA 6-4 in one of the matches of the tournament. Universal also scored the most goals in one match, beating BT Wholesale/Kcom 16-1.
Shine Telecom also lost their fi rst game to Astute Telecom but went on to reach the fi nal for the third time in the tournament’s history beating Nine Telecom, Daisy 4 and Kalamazoo/Reynolds on the way. Magnanimous in defeat, Shine ‘manager’ Phil Harvey told the Press afterwards: ”It was a great event and I have the boys on a strict diet and exercise plan in training for next year!”
A magnifi cent sum of £5,500 was raised for children’s charity Sparks.
