COMMS VISION 10-12 NOVEMBER GLENEAGLES UPDATE
DEBATE MAJOR CHANGES AHEAD
transformation, explore how it will change channel partnerships, look at examples of converged solutions and finish by debating how channel partners need to evolve to address the evolving marketplace. It is this rich event content and the quality of follow- up meetings which makes the Comms Vision Convention so valuable to Platinum sponsors like Gamma Telecom.
Richard Bligh, Marketing Manager at Gamma, noted: “Comms Vision is special. The quality of content delivered by all the speakers and the opportunity to debate issues raised by them makes for a rewarding event for all participants. However, what makes it worthwhile at a business level is the ample opportunity provided to meet and network with the directors of the UK’s top channel companies.” n
business-led conversations, not technology-led ones. C&W Worldwide is used to this with larger organisations and can help partners develop them with all their clients. We can show partners how easy it is to transition to these new conversations. By taking this business-led consultative approach the channel has the opportunity to discuss the criticality of the communications infrastructure to the operations of the organisation. This, more often than not, leads to increased sales and a closer relationship with the client.
“Customers now need business- grade communications rather than making do with the consumer- grade versions many implemented when first starting out. Until the channel gets into real business- led conversations about the importance of the communications infrastructure to the operational effectiveness of the organisation, it is difficult for them to explain the need for the higher bandwidth and guaranteed performance levels.”
Comms Vision 2010 will pick up on all these ideas and explore in detail the definition of business

Agile businesses get fit for purpose in a changing world
T
he key to business transformation for most companies is to use their communications
infrastructure and IT assets in more dynamic and innovative ways, according to Colin Annette, Director of Communications Service Provider at BT Wholesale, a Gold sponsor at Comms Vision 2010. He commented: “As organisations try to reinvent themselves to compete in new markets, hold off competition in their traditional markets and become more agile to respond to change, they have to think differently about how they utilise all of their ICT assets. Rather than making do with implementing ‘adequate ICT systems’ they need to reassess what they are trying to do and how ICT solutions can accelerate their ability to execute their plans.
“Most importantly they need to look at their communications infrastructure in a more holistic way rather than just as a way of connecting offices and mobile users. This is possible now with the advent of Next Generation Networks with fibre-based broadband. By implementing such

technology they are effectively creating one virtual network for the organisation capable of delivering the whole range of new business transformation collaboration, cloud and activity based applications.”
There is no doubt that communications infrastructure, particularly broadband, has been the great enabler of mobility for workers, however this new freedom is driving demand for more and more bandwidth as organisations see the benefits of more flexibility in deploying their workforce. Annette added: “We are at the start of a new phase, in fact a major structural change, in the way we all work. This will be supported by revolutions like cloud computing and underpinned by Next Generation Networks.”
Integration key to delivery I
ntegration is central to the provision of comms solutions on many levels, not least the integration between products produced by different vendors. “All Tri-Line products are based on open standards. Without proper integration with other systems it is difficult, if not impossible, to create a compelling business case for any prospect,” noted Kay Tobin, Commercial Director at silver sponsor Tri-Line.
“Technological change and the Silver Sponsors COMMS DEALER OCTOBER 2010 49
integration of new technologies open up a world of opportunity. Web technology allows us to deploy solutions today that were unthinkable only a few years ago.”
Tri-Line believes that Comms Vision is pivotal in setting the agenda for the comms industry. “Comms Vision allows industry experts to take time out, come together and lock horns over their visions of the future and in doing so, define the course of that future,” said Tobin. n
