www.comms-dealer.com EDITOR’S COMMENT

As an editor I am used to making cutbacks. The trick is not to lose anything meaningful from the text while wielding the axe. The Government swings a very different axe, but the principle remains the same. In our newly christened age of cutbacks and cutting your cloth, cutting a good deal remains the prime mover – a story that won’t be lost on Government editors when they publish their Spending Review on October 20th.

Many fear that the telecoms and IT sector will suffer greatly from the expected financial squeeze. Although the destiny of some may be the cutting room floor, most will gain in relevance to the Government’s

UC gap fi lled

According to Ian Kilpatrick, Chairman of Wick Hill, security fears have deterred many compa- nies from moving towards UC. He commented: “Sipera square- ly tackles the security issues and provides the means for organisa- tions to move with confidence towards a converged network.”

PANASONIC has formalised its existing technical partner relation- ships and is encouraging more col- laborations under a new Solutions Partner Programme. The three-tiered scheme is based on technical integration abilities and the geography in which the solution is to be marketed. Steve Gerrard, Marketing Man-

ager for Panasonic, said: “In some cases we need local additions to our product range that require little or no technical integration into our applications or solutions. “In other cases we partner with

developers, integrators or other companies on solution enhance- ments that require significant tech- nical interaction. “In an open, application-driv-

en market it is necessary to form strong alliances with technical com- panies that can enable Panasonic to broaden its solution offerings.”
