GRAPH EXPO • October 3, 2010 ■ 28 LYFT Visual Gets Boost in B

oehmer Box’s LYFT Visual of Canada, a packaging print- er that manufactures carton and packaging products, sig- nage and POP materials, installed an Agfa :Dotrix Modular digital press. LYFT Visual, is relying on the :Dotrix to help repurpose packaging graphics into signage and display materials. The UV inkjet printing system can print on virtually any substrate, from flexible film to carton stock made from materials as diverse as paper, box- board, label stock, Styrene, and PVC. The :Dotrix gives LYFT Visual the ability to provide high-quality pack- aging and other marketing materials simply and easily. “Brand owners can easily repurpose their packaging graphics into signage and display materials, and produce these quickly on the digital press. This allows fast and low-cost production of a variety of support materials for the POS support market. These can include free standing inserts, retail-ready packag- ing, in-store banners and signage which are extensions of what consumer prod- uct goods companies need to procure,” says Mark Caines, group president and COO, Boehmer Box. “We have created a value proposition that differentiates us in the marketplace and has allowed us to grow our business.” LYFT Visual was the first company in Canada to install the :Dotrix digital press, the speed of which will help the company reach its goal of producing two billion folding cartons annually. With the trend going towards shorter runs, variable data and higher quality,

EPG’s KeyColor Systems are inte- grated into original equipment by leading press manufacturers and installed worldwide as retrofits on commercial, newspaper, and pack- aging printing presses. For printers supporting sustainability programs, a KeyColor system significantly reduc- es startup paper and ink waste, reports the company.

Short-run Projects Agfa’s :Dotrix Modular UV inkjet printing system provides flexibility, speed and cost benefits

the :Dotrix gives LYFT an advantage over its competitors in the market. “Traditional flexo or UV offset print- ing is expensive and time consuming to reach makeready on press,” says Richard Barham, Vice President, Ink- jet, Agfa Graphics. “Historically, that was not so important so long as the run lengths could stay long enough. For some time the trend has been towards progressively shorter and shorter runs. This trend has allowed digital UV ink- jet and the :Dotrix to find an important place in the market and help companies like LYFT Visual stand apart.” The :Dotrix digital UV inkjet press, with a printing width of 63cm, is a highly productive UV, single-pass printing press. :Dotrix prints with high production capacity on a wide variety of substrates, ranging from flexible foils, 20 micron over self-adhesives, to folding cartons up to 600 micron. Its modular construction lets traditional UV flexo printing stations for coating and varnishing alleys added to the roll- to-roll basic configuration. To com- plete the system, slitting, die cutting and sheeters can also be integrated.
