New from the Fabbri Group, this giant construction has been travelling throughout Spain this season under the ownership of the Bañuls family. The ride uses a 40-metre arm similar to Fabbri’s Booster propeller ride, but on a slight slant. Instead of a single car at each end of the arm, there is a group of four cars at the bottom (with a counter weight at the other end), increasing capacity while reducing loading time. Not only do the cars loop, they also rotate horizontally around the bottom of the main arm. The travelling ride packs onto just two trailers. A second unit was recently delivered to a customer in France.

DRAAK EFTELING The latest fairytale to be brought to life at Holland’s leading theme park is George and the Dragon. Supplied by Great Coasters International, the Joris en de Draak duelling coaster features two 810-metre-long wooden tracks. Riders in each train – “water” and


“fire” – race against one another at up to 75 km/h. Featuring an animated dragon by P&P Projects, Joris en de Draak replaces Efteling’s previous wooden coaster Pegasus overlooking the lake used by the Flying Dutchman.

Merlin Entertainments’ first new attraction in the UK for almost a decade opened this spring in the city of Manchester. The £7.5 million ($11.2m/€8.3m) Legoland Discovery Centre (LDC) features a 3DBA interactive dark ride, a 4D cinema with Bob the Builder, Fire Academy play area, a Lego “Factory Tour,” multiple Lego building opportunities and Lego replicas of local landmarks and other Merlin attractions. FLAMBARDS The UK’s first Drop ‘n’ Twist Tower from SBF debuted this spring at Flambards in Cornwall. The 28-metre attraction is the tallest of its kind from the Italian manufacturer. The ride features a 16-seat gondola that turns both clockwise and anticlockwise as it travels up and down the tower. Additionally, a special “observation tower” mode allows operators to offer a slower, panoramic ride. Multiple other ride patterns are included, such as full freefall, half freefall, bounce and jump.

Potsdamer Platz in Berlin during 2007, followed by subsequent openings in Duisburg, Germany, and Schaumburg near Chicago (both in 2008), Merlin has refined the model with its arrival in Manchester, and now targets a more regional but relatively affluent urban market. Annexed to the Trafford Centre shopping mall, which already receives over 35 million visits a year; the Manchester attraction has been doing good business since opening around Easter. Merlin’s next Legoland Discover Centre opens near Dallas, Texas, in 2011.
