IAAPA Attractions Expo back to Orlando!

IAAPA, the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions, holds its annual Attractions Expo next month and it’s back where it belongs – in Orlando, theme park capital of the world

O

rganisers estimate around 25,000 people will attend this, the world’s largest conference and trade show for the attractions industry. More than 1,000 exhibitors are expected across more than 1 million square feet of the Orange County Convention Center. Central Orlando, of course, offers multiple theme parks and attractions for industry professionals to research and enjoy during their stay. The trade show itself kicks off on Wednesday, November 17, but before that a wide range of education sessions and social events are planned. On Sunday, for example, the IAAPA International Charity Golf Tournament takes place at Hawk’s Landing Gold Club. Later in the week, on Thursday morning, the 4th annual IAAPA Charity Fun Run & Walk takes place at the Give Kids The World Village. Walking 1km is hardly a challenge, but getting up ready for the 7am start might be. The more athletic may prefer the 5km run.

On Monday night, there’s a social event and tour at

Wet ‘n’ Wild. Further tours and behind-the-scenes opportunities will be offered during the week at SeaWorld (Tuesday night), Disney’s Hollywood

General Managers

And Owners Breakfast Tom Williams (pictured), the chairman and CEO of Universal Parks & Resorts, has been confirmed as the keynote speaker of this year’s General Managers and Owners Breakfast during IAAPA Attractions Expo. Boasting more than 40 years'

experience in the hospitality industry, he joined Universal Studios Florida in 1987 as part of the project’s opening team and led the group that designed and developed all operational aspects for the new theme park, which opened in 1990. Today he sits at the helm of a business overseeing attractions in Hollywood, Orando, Japan and Singapore, with planned theme parks in Dubai and South Korea. “We are thrilled to have Tom Williams as our keynote speaker less than six months after opening of Universal Studios Singapore and Wizarding World of Harry Potter," says IAAPA chairman and CEO, Charlie Bray. "Tom will provide a fresh perspective on adding a large, multifaceted area to a well-established park, as well as offer the wisdom he has gained working for more than 40 years in the hospitality industry.” The General Managers and Owners' Breakfast takes place on Wednesday morning, November 17, at the Orange County Convention Center. While the event is geared towards senior level attractions professionals, all registered IAAPA participants are all eligible to buy a ticket.
