GRASS CARPETS TO “INSPIRE” OFFICES

guests of their childhood and therefore free them of societal barriers that restrict creativity. Everybody should kick off their shoes once in a while and walk barefoot on the grass to rekindle the creativity that was allowed to flow freely in childhood before too many rules got in the way."

Living grass has been installed in conference rooms in selected Crowne Plaza hotels to try and “inspire” employees.

According to research from InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG), which owns the Crowne Plaza brand, 40% of professionals lose focus within the first 20 minutes of a meeting, due to their “uninspiring surroundings.”

To improve conditions, the grass-filled meeting rooms were trialled in Crowne Plaza London Docklands, Crowne Plaza Glasgow

and Crowne Plaza Dublin Northwood from 16th – 20th August.

Angela Whitlock, author of Walk on the Grass and professional speaker, said:

"Research has shown that by the age of 25, as much as 98% of our creativity has vanished. Crowne Plaza's initiative is perfect because it breaks down the self- imposed rules that prevent us from achieving our full potential.

Eleanor Conroy from Crowne Plaza said: "Meetings should be productive and enjoyable but we all know from experience that some meetings can be less than inspiring. The fresh grass turfed meeting rooms are one of the things we're doing at Crowne Plaza to help our guests get the most out of their business trips. Earlier this year, we introduced the SleepAdvantage programme with quiet zones, aromatherapy oils and special sleep podcasts from sleep specialist Dr Chris Idzikowski to help our guests wake up ready to perform."

THE BATH MAT’S ALIVE!

A bath mat constructed out of moss has been created in order to “bring nature back into the indoors.”

Created by Nguyen La Chanh as part of her degree, the rug cost – made from over 70 balls of moss held together with latex – cost £220 to make.

After creating momentum online, demand has meant that Nguyen now hopes to mass produce the mat, but hopefully with financial backing, to offer the end product at a more reasonable price of £40.

Speaking of her prototype Nguyen said: “It's relaxing, feels lovely and soft under the feet and doesn't need much care. The humidity of the bathroom and the drops flowing from the body, water the mosses. This vegetation carpet procures a great feeling to your feet.”
