on tourism for more than a century, is truly nature’s playground, with hundreds of ways to relax, explore and play in any season. “We’re located near the town of
Banner Elk in a cozy, wooded area where you can enjoy nature,” said Kim Dalton, general manager of Blue Ridge Village. Snow seekers can hit the slopes on
nearby Sugar and Beech Mountains or, depending on the season, snow tube or golf at Hawksnest Golf & Ski resort. All three were established in the 1960s. Daredevils will love Hawk- snest’s over 1.5 miles of zip line, the longest on the East Coast. Hikers, na- ture aficionados and shutterbugs will want to spend the day at Grandfather Mountain and Blowing Rock. “Folks of all ages love Grandfather
Mountain, with its views and nature center,” Dalton said, adding that spelunkers should consider a visit to Linville Caverns.
Canoers and kayakers can float
down a river or take on challeng- ing rapids. A short drive to Boone puts you in the middle of a laid-back college town with fantastic shopping and dining venues. Or why not take a tour (and taste) at the Banner Elk Winery? Built on a blueberry farm north of Banner Elk in 2006, it is the home of sev- eral wines created from locally grown grapes, includ- ing, of course, an award-winning blueberry wine. After explor-
ing the High Country, you’ll be glad to return home to your one
or two-bedroom villa at Blue Ridge Village. Your mountain villa experi- ence comes complete with breathtak- ing views, private deck, washer and dryer, full kitchen and fireplace. You can visit for a weekend or watch an entire season pass by. Blue Ridge Vil- lage offers time-share, ownership and rental options. Guests have access to the indoor pool, tennis courts, fishing, paddle- boats, a playground, basketball court, sauna, whirlpool and an exercise room. Just remember to take it easy because, after all, this is a vacation. “It’s a great place for anyone look- ing for a simpler, slower vacation,” Dalton laughed.
