Training has it all wrapped up
William Smith is now offering one and two day vehicle wrapping courses at its head office in Barnard Castle. These hands-on training courses, provided by 3M approved fitter, Andrew Gamble of AG Graphic Applications, help participants perfect the art of vehicle wrapping. The two day beginners course covers the basics of vehicle wrapping, while the one day advanced training course is suitable for professional applicators who already have some wrapping experience. Courses cost £495 per person for the two day course and £295 for the one day course.

On-line tool helps minimise PVC impact
A new PVC sustainability tool has been launched to help producers of PVC products reduce their environmental footprint. The software, which is available free on-line, assesses the environmental and economic sustainability of PVC products and processes, enabling users to estimate the costs, both to the planet and to their business. Users supply data on the consumption of raw materials, energy and emissions to air, water and solid waste. Based on this information, the tool calculates the impact of PVC production under six distinct categories; global warming potential; acidification potential; eutrophication potential; ozone layer depletion potential; photochemical smog; and human toxicity potential. Life cycle assessment (LCA) results are calculated using the ISO 14044 LCA methodology. Once estimates are calculated, users can also view ‘hot spots’ in the system where economic and environmental costs could be reduced and carry out a ‘what if’ scenario analysis to see how the results vary depending on data input.

Certification ensures sustainable paper products
Smurfit Kappa UK has achieved chain of custody (CoC) certification for its entire UK corrugated and paper manufacturing capacity. The two-year programme encompassed Smurfit Kappa's major UK operations including two recycled paper mills, 15 corrugated facilities and paper mills, sheet plants as well as specialist plants for sheetfeeding and paper printing. This integrated approach to certification enables Smurfit Kappa to offer fully certified packaging solutions on over 95 per cent of its products.
Certification has already brought benefits to Smurfit Kappa UK by accelerating the development of IT applications in support of chain of custody compliance, with on-line, real-time reporting throughout the manufacturing and procurement process. There are also benefits in logistics with the development of segregated and quarantined storage of recycled and certified paper stocks and supply chain management of external paper suppliers for purchasing certified raw material.

A new display department has been launched by
pixart.it dedicated to printing rigid materials for creating cardboard, Polionda corrugated plastic and Forex displays. The new on-line service will offer a catalogue of proposals designed by
pixart.it, selecting the most popular products, formats and materials requested by clients.
Visitors to the site can choose the display that best meets their specific needs, download the master layout free of charge, personalise it with graphics and then send an order to receive the printed and die-cut display in 48 hours, ready to be assembled.
In order to keep up with expected demand for the new display department,
pixart.it signed an agreement with Durst Phototechnik to install three Rho 700 high speed corrugated version systems that will back up the Rho 700 corrugated version already used in the
pixart.it rigid printing department.
