PRISM

Staying on top

Fespa received rave reviews from visitors and exhibitors alike, including several Prism members, proving that industry is fighting back. Here, Prism details further events set to help members stay on top

everal members of Prism exhibited at Fespa 2010 with Natgraph, Rolt Marketing, Small Products and Laurie Mullany in the screen printing hall and Sun Chemical and Inca Digital in the digital printing halls. Without exception they were delighted with the response and left with pockets bulging with enquiries and even orders from all over the world.

What the show demonstrated, was that things are on the up. It wasn’t just the number of visitors or exhibitors, but the quality of the exhibits and the fact the majority of visitors came to make buying decisions.

The day before the exhibition Fespa Associations met together to discuss how Fespa could provide additional services to its members. At the top of the agenda was market information and contacts throughout the industry. Prism is fortunate to be able to access this through its worldwide membership. With 27 associations in Europe alone and others in North and South America, India, Asia, The Far East, Australia and New Zealand, it gives the association quite a reach. Other issues affecting industry include legislation, the weight of which is getting to Titanic size and seriously affecting members. Every month Prism puts out a

regulatory update that allows the membership to see at a glance the changes that are specific to screen, digital, litho and pad printing that they must know about. The new UK government has pledged to cut red tape - let us hope they achieve their aims.

Prism is also planning events for the autumn. One of these is a round table for printers where they can discuss issues of common interest under the Chatham House rule. The previous event was a great success not only in the topics discussed but the networking that took place, resulting in significant amounts of inter-trading. This year it will be in London. Places are limited to around 20 with some seats reserved already. For more details email carol.swift@prismuk.org.

For those involved in fine art printing, Prism is planning another event nearer Christmas that examines all elements of the topic. It is aimed at printers, photographers, artists, suppliers of consumables and equipment, artists and galleries. This event will examine the place for digital and screen printing in this market. At a recent meeting of Fespa associations, of which Prism is the UK association, important discussions took place as to how the organisations could

work more closely together and what additional services Fespa could provide that would benefit members of associations. Many suggestions were put forward and as a result important additional services are expected to go live in the next few months. When times are difficult, Prism members should take all the help they can get.
