Tasty ideas dazzle at design awards

Foamalux PVC sheet took centre stage at the UK Restaurant and Bar Design Awardswhere it was used to fit out the event venue in style

A

s the chosen material partner for the event, Foamalux dazzled guests with its design capabilities and bright white finish. The event proved an ideal platform to showcase the versatility and processing qualities of the product in its use as a backdrop for the event.

Now in its second year, the Restaurant and Bar Design Awards, held in Victoria House, London, recognises restaurants, bars and their designers for design excellence. An event which celebrates the best of interior design needs to be equally inspirational. Marco Rebora therefore designed the backdrop and staging, using Foamalux to bring his scheme to life. Semi circular reception and cloak room areas at the entrance to the event were clad in bright white five millimetre Foamalux, which was both screen printed and routed for visual impact. In the award presentation area,

Foamalux formed a gently curving screen back drop for the awards presentation, providing a pristine surface for multi-media projections throughout the ceremony. The entertainment zone was created completely from Foamalux, again featuring gently curving lines, with the bar, networking areas and DJ booth all clad in bright white foam PVC, which was routed and softly backlit to create a sultry ambience. Badges, drink tokens and even the luminous lightbox awards were all made from Foamalux, replacing traditional trophies and paper alternatives to create a real buzz throughout the evening.

The material was processed using direct to substrate printing methods and vinyl graphics were applied to create the Restaurant and Bar Design Awardsidentity and to identify areas such as the cloakroom. The Foamalux panels were also CNC routed to feature the sponsors

branding and the 09 10 symbol to create the clean, blank canvas impression which the designer required for the venue and awards. The inherent versatility of the material is evident in its ability to be shaped to create circular pods, networking areas and a semi circular cloakroom area and cut, bonded and routed to transform the awards into three dimensional light boxes.

Foamalux Bright White is part of a portfolio developed by Brett Martin. Designed to offer quality performance, the material has endless applications in sign, display and print industries for signage, exhibition display and point of sale. Its print clarity is said to provide dazzling images and pin sharp text, but there are many more application possibilities for this material, making it the ideal choice for designers to think outside the box..

Manufactured to exacting tolerances, the smooth, semi matt surface finish of Foamalux Bright White boasts an even, reliable surface for digital printing. The uniform, expanded closed cell structure gives Foamalux Bright White a hard, flat surface, providing rigidity and mechanical properties for intricate die cutting and routing. The hard surface is also durable for resistance to knocks and scratches. Marco Rebora, from Bar and Restaurant Design Awards, commented: “We required a quality product to fulfil our venue requirements and knew that Foamalux Bright White would deliver. The product was versatile and effective in complimenting our theme for the evening, which was a blank canvas. The results were dazzling.”
