females. As is often the case when you have several kitties, one is dominant. For us, that would be Kaylee. A beautiful, very petite, long-haired Siamese mix, she is extremely loving to her humans, but she rules the other cats with an iron paw. She reminds me of Sue Sylvester on Glee, if you've ever watched that show: random terror. As she walks by one of the other cats, she may ignore them, she may give them a nice lick on the face, or she may wallop them on top of the

head and keep walking. You never know. Random terror. The other kitties (much larger than she), give her a wide berth, or, barring time to move out of her way, simply bow a bit as she walks by. So, there I was, sitting in my usual spot on the living room couch with my
family, laptop fi rmly in place as I worked on the magazine. My husband was watching television and randomly ducking as our seven-year-old launched plastic marbles at him from his miniature catapult. The two were giggling like crazy with each shot. Out of the corner of my eye, I notice Son starting to aim the catapult at me. Fearing for the screen of my laptop, I sternly announced, without looking up, "Do NOT aim that thing at me. I will NOT think it's funny." Without missing a beat, Son brightly replied, "Oh, yeah. I forgot. You're not
that much into laughing." (Husband begins to turn red as he tries not to laugh.) Son continues, "You're pretty much the Kaylee of our family." (Husband now dissolves into guffaws, tears streaming down his face.)
Reaction One: Give Husband the Death Glare Reaction Two: Turn to Son to try to explain why Mom is so serious Reaction Three: Feel extremely sheepish, looking at Son, and dissolve into giggles
Completely made his day.
And the moral of the story? Well, I've decided I don't need to come up with a set, pat moral. I don't always have to come up with the answers. I don't always have to be responsible and effi cient and in charge. One Kaylee in the house is enough.
