Member ESCB elects new SVP and trustee
East Cambridge Savings Bank’s board of trustees recently elected John P. Mahoney senior vice presi- dent. Mahoney oversees retail banking operations, investment services, and serves as the Bank’s Consumer Compliance Officer and Bank Secrecy Act Officer. Mahoney first joined East Cambridge Savings Bank as a part-time teller in 1987. He was elected to a number of positions including assistant vice president in 1991, vice president in 2001, and corporator in 2005. In other ECSB news, Ronald Layne was recently elected trustee. Layne is an assistant chief probation officer for the Cambridge District Court and is involved in the Cambridge community through affiliations with Cambridge Neighborhood Safety Task Force, North Cambridge Crime Task Force and the Cambridge Community Center.


State Offers Free Legal Workshop

The Lawyers’ Committee, in asso- ciation with WilmerHale, the State’s Supplier Diversity Office and Small Business Development Office are host- ing a free business legal workshop where business attorneys will give an overview of legal issues and answer questions on Wednesday, August 11, 2010 from 10 a.m. to noon in the 2nd floor Community Room of the Cambridge City Hall Annex, 344 Broadway, Cambridge. Support CCTV’s annual Backyard BBQ
Scheduled for September 16, CCTV’s Backyard BBQ will feature food grilled by local chefs in CCTV’s backyard in Central Square, live music, a silent auction, and the presentation of Leading Role Awards to individuals who have worked for positive change in Cambridge. For every $1,500 raised, CCTV will be able to support an additional teen in their Youth Media Program, training Cambridge teens in media literacy and production skills, and helping them become the next generation of media-makers. This BBQ will likely be the last in CCTV’s current location in Central Square as they are currently searching for a new home. Annual Revels RiverSing celebrates fall
On Sunday, September 19, celebrate the approaching Autumnal Equinox with thousands of singers and pic- nickers at the 7th annual Revels RiverSing along the Charles River in Cambridge. This free giant community sing produced by Revels features a colorful Grand Procession, dozens of area chorus members and solo artists, a talented folk band and local sax legend Stan Strickland. Communal singing begins at 6 p.m. and lasts until dark on the Cambridge side of the Charles River near the John W. Weeks Footbridge at Memorial Drive. CSB expands financial literacy program
Cambridge Savings Bank has launched the “CSBsmart Financial Literacy Program,” workshops and classes to educate consumers in the areas of sav- ing, budgeting and managing credit. The program con- sists of over 10 customized modules including Budgeting and Saving, Managing a Checking Account, Buying Your First Home, Credit Smarts, Fraud Smarts, and Financial Fitness, Learning About Saving and Counting Money (for children). It was put together in response to the urgent need for consumers to better understand their finances, build credit and qualify for loans and outreach is focusing on underserved popula- tions including new immigrants, low income individu- als, Welfare to Work participants, students and the elderly. Classes are offered in partnership with schools, nonprofits and government agencies. Organizations that would like to learn more should contact the Community Relations office at (617) 441-4313.
