It’s Time to Get Tough from the Rough

The U.S. Open was just contested down the road at Pebble Beach, and I was amazed at the length and density of the rough. The primary cut was easily more than four inches long, which made advancing the ball extremely difficult. Long, thick rough is annually a key ingredient at the U.S. Open, so let’s take a look at a variety of situations you may come across during your next competitive round.


Following a checklist will help you get back to the short grass.


Situation No.1


Your match is all square heading to the 18th hole. After piping your tee shot, you get a little aggressive with your layup and find the left hand rough. To make matters worse, it is sitting down. Now the pressure is on. Here is the checklist for this important shot:
