Increased Makita line-up

Makita’s latest additions to its Outdoor Product Equipment range include the BUH550RD 36V cordless hedge

trimmer, which has

a 55cm long, double-edge, double-sided blade, which will cut through 18mm diameter shrubbery. Powered by a Lithium-ion battery, it runs at up to 1800 strokes/minute, with blade speed altered by a control on the grip handle, which can be set in five different positions. Other 36V cordless newcomers include a 25cm chainsaw and a two-speed, hand-held blower. Two new hedge trimmers have been introduced. The UH200DW has a 20cm long, single-side trimming blade, while the UM164DW forward facing trimmer has a 17cm shearing width, with height adjustment between 10, 15 and 25mm. Both models are powered by 10.8V Lithium-ion batteries. Also launched is the UV380/2 mains powered scarifier, which has an

1800watt motor and provides a 39cm raking width with single lever height adjustment, while the new EH7500S petrol hedge trimmer is designed for low vibration and has a 75cm double-sided, double-edge blade with a 21.5mm cutting capacity.

Ransomes Jacobsen’s Highway 3 triplex cylinder mower is targeted at the landscape and local authority grounds care markets. Derived from the existing Highway 2130 and the HR-3300T rotary mower, its 33hp turbocharged Kubota diesel engine, together with a 6.7% weight reduction over the current Highway model, gives a better power to weight ratio and, therefore, improved fuel efficiency and reduced operating costs. A swing-out centre cutting unit facilitates routine maintenance, and safety features include a traction control system utilising a combination of automatic limited slip

differential on the front wheels, on-demand four-wheel drive and weight transfer. An optional stability enhancement system is available, whereby an inclinometer fitted under the seat platform activates some of the hydraulic components on the machine when predetermined angles are reached. It shuts down the cutting units completely if the operator is at risk of using the machine on slopes beyond its safe working angle.

Lancashire-based Elston Hire has become the first UK hirer to take delivery of Hanix’s latest H09D mini excavator. Located at Eccleston, near Chorley, the business, which is run by Mark and Sonya Elston, also includes a machinery dealership. “The H09D has a 7.8kW Kubota engine and is fitted with hydraulic servo controls. This means you get tremendous machine power with smooth, responsive control,” says Mark. “It is great for smaller building jobs like digging footings for extensions and conservatories, where access into gardens is often through narrow gateways. The machine is easy to operate and can be transported on a standard 8x4 trailer.” In working mode, the track width expands from 75-95cm to enhance stability whilst digging. With rubber tracks, the H09D weighs 980kg and can traverse surfaces with minimal ground compaction or impact on paved areas. Like other Hanix minis sold in the UK and Ireland, the machine has Datatag ant-theft protection fitted as standard and is registered under the construction industry equipment security registration scheme, Cesar.

Briggs & Stratton launches three-year Vanguard engine warranty

Briggs & Stratton Commercial Power has announced that selected Vanguard air-cooled 4-stroke petrol engines entering the market from 1 July 2010 feature a three-year limited consumer and commercial warranty, which also applies to units sold into the hire market. “We have closely monitored the performance of our

Vanguard engines in the field from a warranty perspective for the last few years, and the results have been outstanding. As a result, we are willing to take the lead and become the first manufacturer of small, commercial engines to offer such a warranty for a full horsepower range,” claims Paul Bramhall, Senior Category Manager Engines Europe. He adds that, since the warranty is effective for equipment that goes into field service on or after 1 July, it applies to engines OEMs may have held in inventory on that date and which were yet to be fitted, as well as to finished products still to be sold.
