STUDENT-ATHLETES OF THE YEAR


BurgandyMcCurty won her second consecutive Siena College Female Student-Athlete of the Year award this past spring. One of the top athletes in school history, she claimed her third straight MAAC Offensive Player of the Year award this past fall. As a senior, McCurty set the school and league records with 5.37 kills per set. She ranked second in the nation in kills, kills per set, and points per set. She ranks first in pro- gramhistory with 4.27 career kills per set and third with 342 blocks. She graduatedwith a 3.36GPA in accounting andwill go for hermaster’s degree next year.


BrentHerbst became themost decoratedmen’s lacrosse player in school history this season. The 2010 SienaCollegeMale Student-Athlete of the Year was named anAll-AmericanHonorableMention for the second straight year, a ScholarAll-American,MAACDefensive Player of the Year andMAACFirst Team. In 2010,Herbst led the Saints to their second consecutive undefeated MAACregular-season championship.He had a 12-4 record and ranked fourth in the country in both goals-against average (7.89) and save percent- age (.594).Herbst graduatedwith a 3.0GPA in American studies.


After the season,Herbstwas invited to play in two all-star games – the USILANorth/South All-Star game and theMajor League Lacrosse Challenge.On June 6, he became the first Siena lacrosse player ever drafted when hewas selected 22nd overall by theMLL’s Long Island Lizards.


INTRAMURALS – STUDENT INVOLVEMENT The core of the athletic department’smission states: The department will provide a dynamic and progressive environment in which members of the Siena community can take part in competitive and or recreational opportunities while providing its student athletes with a positive environment in which to learn, live, compete and practice.

In turn, a component of the department’smission is its vibrant intramural program. During the 2009-2010 academic year, there were 2,250 partici- pant opportunities in Siena’s eight-sport intramural program, with 39%of the Siena community (1,286) participating in at least one intra- mural activity.


The Siena student body turned out in record numbers to support the Saints this season. For the first time, the student body was offered the opportunity to purchase premiumlevels of seating formen’s basketball games when school was in session. In total, 1,040 student priority packages were purchased – representing nearly a third of the student population!


The “Dog Pound” (Siena’s student support group)made its presence known throughout the season. Student turnout at other on campus varsity eventswas also at an all-time high.
