SAINTS IN THE COMMUNITY


Although Siena student-athletes and coaches have actively volunteered their time in the Capital Region for decades, the Saints in the Community programwas only formally established in 2002. The College and the AthleticDepartmentmis- sion statements both site community service and volunteerismas critical components of the Siena experience.


Youth Soccer Clinic The Sienamen’s andwomen’s soccer teams volunteered atMVPHealthcare’s Youth Soccer Clinic at BethlehemSoccerplex on September 12, 2009. They helped coach over 400 kids at the free clinic alongside Olympic GoldMedalist AbbyWambach.

Men’s Lacrosse Visits RonaldMcDonaldHouse Sienamen’s lacrosse visited the RonaldMcDonaldHouse in Albany on December 8 and December 15 to cook dinner for the residents. Ronald McDonaldHouse Charities offer a place for families to stay who have a seriously ill or injured child undergoing treatment at a local hospital.


Adopt-a-School Visit Themen’s and women’s basketball teams visited three local schools on January 12 as part of its Adopt-a-School program. The Saints visited Acadia Middle School in Clifton Park, Delaware Community and Brighter Choice Charter School for Boys in Albany. Players and coaches spoke with the students, played games and signed autographs. The three schools were invited to both amen’s and women’s home game later in the season.
