SOCIAL BUTTERFLIES


The Athletic Department launched its official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/SienaSaints) in September and amassed well over 5,000 followers in its first ninemonths. At the Official Siena Saints Facebook page, fans can watch live video highlights fromselect events, check out photo galleries, post their own Siena photos, catch up on all the latest news, win prizes, participate in discussion threads, receive special offers andmore.


Fans can also now follow the athletic department on Twitter at www.twitter.com/Siena_Saints. The Saints havemore than 500 fans following their tweets, which range fromevent updates to the lighter side of Siena athletics.


The third armof Siena’s social networking platformto debut this season was the Official Siena Saints YouTube page: www.youtube.com/theSienaSaints. There have been over 5,000 video views on the Siena Saints YouTube page since its launch in late December.


TRUE SAINTS


On February 15, 2010 a Siena student collapsed in theweight roomin theMarcelle Athletic Complex andwent into cardiac arrest.Members of the athletic department raced into action and helped save his life.


Women’s lacrosse coaches AndreaDuffy andMollyOrtolanowitnessed the student slump to the ground while lifting weights. They dialed 911 and contacted the training staff. Athletic trainer Lisa Cantara brought the AED to the weight roomand she and strength and conditioning coach Dan Taylor started CPR. Cantara administered one shock with the AED and athletic trainer Scott Connell gave rescue breaths. Taylor and Cantara resumed compressions and the student responded with a pulse and started to breathe on his own. Colonie EMS transported the student to AlbanyMemorialHospital and hemade a full recovery – even finishing the spring semester as a resident student.


At the department’s annual All Sports Celebration inMay, associate director of public safety, TomBreslin, presented each Good Samaritan with the Life Saving Award for their heroic actions.


Head athletic trainer GregDashnawhas also been honored with the Life Saving Award in the past.He is a two-time recipient.
