TEAN has developed out of the successful Initial Teacher Education section of the Education Subject Centre of the Higher Education Academy. Its aim is to enhance the quality of teaching, learning and assessment in the education of current and future teachers through developing practice, promoting innovation and practitioner research and contributing to policy development. The activities that TEAN delivers include: • An annual teacher education conference • Workshops and seminars based on current themes and priorities, e.g. the induction of new teacher educators; masters- level teacher education and development; professionally relevant learning, teaching and assessment in teacher education
• A peer reviewed online journal – the TEAN journal - focusing on publishing the work of practitioners and early career researchers working in teacher education. This initiative will be a significant asset for the sector in establishing a publishing outlet for the growing body of teacher education researchers
• Developing and supporting research into teacher education through capacity building activities
• A website to publicise activities and provide access to resources for teacher educators and school-based mentors and coaches
• Collaborative activities with organisations such as the Teacher Training Resource Bank, Universities Council for the Education of Teachers and the British Educational Research Association.

Fairtrade winner at the Lancaster Campus
Lisa Munro, a student at the Lancaster campus, was the lucky winner of the University’s prize of a Fairtrade hamper which was offered during the recent Fairtrade fortnight.
The BSc (Hons) Mathematics QTS student saw the competition on a poster by a till in the Gateway building and immediately registered her name on Facebook.
Lisa has been a supporter of Fairtrade products since about 2002, when she used to shop with her mother, and had completed a number of projects on the subject whilst a pupil at school. She told us that she tries to buy Fairtrade products wherever possible and is pleased to see products such as Dairy Milk and Kit-Kat are now Fairtrade. She is appreciative of the work the University is doing in promoting Fairtrade, especially with coffee, fruit juices, confectionary and the range of snack items available. Lisa was especially pleased with the bottle of wine which she intends sharing with her sister!
