Teacher education conference a great success
The Teacher Education Advancement Network (TEAN) at the University of Cumbria held its first annual conference at Glasgow Caledonian University this month, attracting 120 delegates from across the UK. The conference, held on 21 May, was organised by the TEAN team at the University of Cumbria.

TEAN is a collaborative initiative across universities and national organisations involved in teacher education which aims to provide staff development opportunities, a peer-reviewed journal, an annual conference and workshops to benefit teacher educators. Delegates from higher education institutions including Edge Hill University, Glynd r University, Stranmillis University College in Northern Ireland, the University of Aberdeen, Oxford Brookes University, Newcastle University and Anglia Ruskin University attended the conference.
Anthony Finn, Chief Executive of the General Teaching Council of Scotland opened the conference. The keynote speaker was
Professor John Gardner, Professor of Education at Queen’s University in Belfast, who delivered a speech on the conference theme, ‘The Importance of Education’. The conference was aimed at all practitioners working in teacher education across the UK and all other agencies with a professional interest in teacher education. Workshops and presentations were held throughout the day, giving delegates the opportunity to share good practice from across the sector.
Dr Alison Jackson, Director of TEAN at the University of Cumbria, said: “The conference was a great success and I’m very pleased that so many colleagues from the HE sector were able to attend.”
