FOOTBALL fever has gripped the channel ahead of the Comms Dealer Five-a-side ‘World Cup’ soccer tournament sponsored by Daisy. On June 23rd channel footballers will take part in the hotly contested challenge at Leicester Goals Soccer Centre before assembling to watch England take on Slovenia in the World Cup. “Combining the tournament with a private viewing of the England match represents the ultimate day out for the industry’s soccer players,” said Daisy’s Fiona Ritchie. The event is in aid of kid’s charity Sparks, and there is still an opportunity to take part. To enter a team email

BT Wholesale adds IP Voice
BT WHOLESALE has launched its new IP Voice Service following a period of ‘extensive testing’ during a 12 month trial. BT’s Director of Products and
Enterprises, Alex Pannell, com- mented: “We wanted to understand how the product worked in the mar- ket and the best retail price points, and how to support and sell these
services.” Full story on page 8
IN an exclusive ‘inside story’ arti- cle Avaya has unveiled its channel plans post the Nortel Enterprise Solutions (NES) merger. UK Managing Director Lee
Shorten claims the rapid merging of Avaya and Nortel’s operations and product lines has been completed seamlessly giving the new business a ‘formidable lead’ over rivals in the Unified Communications sector. He said: “We wanted to move
fast to reassure the market that the acquisition was a positive step. We have brought together the best elements of both companies into a single, compelling offer.” Avaya has launched IP Office 6.0 for the SME market, a new range of data products, and Shorten says it remains committed to SIP with Avaya Aura being the founda- tion for its UC portfolio. “We see this as good news for
partners and customers as it offers a viable alternative to ‘rip and replace’ or proprietary software, both costly, unfeasible options in these cost conscious times,” says Shorten.
Areas of development include updates for the Avaya Business Communications Manager plat- form and next generation contact centre solutions. “In the contact centre we are
already taking components from the former NES portfolio to accel- erate Avaya’s customers to the next generation contact centre plat- form,” added Shorten. Avaya says it has ‘worked hard’ to soothe any concerns held by NES heritage partners. Lynda Colman, Sales Leader,
Value Added Resellers, Avaya UK, said: “Feedback is that they are keen to work with us, which we are pleased about. And once they are on board, we’re actively equipping these partners with sales enable- ment training so they are eager and well prepared to get on and sell the full range of Avaya solutions.” Avaya has also unveiled its
new Avaya Connect Professional Credentials programme, offering sophisticated solutions based com- petency training (see page 18).

GRIFFIN Internet’s Sales & Marketing Director Andrew Dickinson proved to be a big hit at CRN’s Fight Night staged in London on May 27th. Dickinson, 48, was matched
against Kevin Moreau from Acronis, and despite losing by a whisker Dickinson’s determination and courage marked him out as a winner to be admired and celebrated. BPL Chairman Chris Boeree, who was ringside, said: “Andrew’s achievement was a credit to his personal discipline to meet what was genuinely a high standard. He is a credit to all who see no bound- aries in life.” Dickinson’s charity effort has so far raised almost £4,000.
