We MUST Conserve Water

Drinking water is a scarce and precious resource, now more than ever. 168 million litres of water are produced at Leixlip water treatment plant every day but people living in Fingal have still had to endure poor water pressure and at times no supply due to the greatly increased demand on water supplies at different times of the year. This problem has been made even more difficult to manage due to significant bursts on the network during last winter.

Water restrictions may have to be introduced this summer at times of highest demand to make sure we have enough water during the day. This means pressure may be reduced at night in some areas to allow reservoirs to fill when demand is lowest.

than anything else, using only the amount of water we need and reducing the water we waste, will dramatically affect the demand on water supplies. Make sure to follow these water saving tips:

• DO NOT stockpile water by filling baths • Keep a jug of water in the fridge • Use a basin to clean fruit and vegetables • Use a bucket to wash your car or windows • NEVER hose your lawns when supplies are restricted • Fix leaking taps and turn off your supply if you have a burst pipe • Use your washing machine and dishwasher only when they are full • Don’t leave the tap running when you wash your teeth • A shower uses less water than a bath

Where Does Fingal’s Water Come From?

Water is supplied in Fingal as part of the Dublin regional water supply system serving Dublin City and County and parts of Wicklow and Kildare. Most of Dublin’s water comes from the Liffey, Dodder and Vartry Rivers and from a groundwater source at the ‘Bog of the Ring’ near Balbriggan. Over one million people get water from treatment plants at Leixlip, Ballymore Eustace, Roundwood and Ballyboden.

Fingal’s water comes from Fingal County Council’s water production plant on the Liffey at Leixlip, from the ‘Bog of the Ring’ supply and from Dublin City Council treatment plants. Water is produced on a 24 hour basis and treated to a very high standard before it comes to your tap for drinking but there is a limit to the water production capacity in Dublin. Using water wisely is now more important than ever. Page 1  |  Page 2  |  Page 3  |  Page 4  |  Page 5  |  Page 6  |  Page 7  |  Page 8
