Affordable Homes from ¤95,000
Is Your Home or Property Attractive to Thieves?
Did you know that the majority of theft from cars and homes is committed by an opportunist thief? To ensure that your car or home is not attractive to thieves it’s important to bear some key tips in mind. The Fingal Joint Policing Committee (JPC) is a partnership between Fingal County Council, the Gardaí and the Community. At a series of recent public meetings held by the JPC, Gardaí advised residents how to protect their homes and property against theft.
Firstly, do not leave valuables like hand bags, sat navs, cameras, laptops or iPods in your car or van. Do not lock them into your boot in public view either. Opportunist thieves are attracted to homes for a number of reasons. A build up of post indicates that a property is unoccupied. Open windows, no alarm or hidden keys are also a draw to thieves, as is high vegetation and easy access to the rear of a house. Thieves are particularly attracted to the homes of the elderly and can often pose as bogus officials to steal from the vulnerable. Be sure to advise your elderly neighbours to always ask for ID and if in doubt, KEEP THEM OUT. Above all, be proactive in securing your property.

145 Green Flags for Fingal
At an awards ceremony on Thursday 4th March last, twenty three Fingal schools were presented with the prestigious green flag. This brings to a very impressive total of one hundred and forty five green flags awarded to sixty six Fingal schools since becoming involved in the programme in 1999. Of the twenty three schools, three were presented with the first flag on the litter and waste theme, ten were awarded their second flags on the energy theme, eight schools were awarded the third flag on the water conservation theme and two schools were awarded the fourth green flag on the travel theme. The Green Schools Programme is operated and co-ordinated by the Environmental Education Unit of An Taisce and Local Authorities throughout the country. The Irish Green Schools programme is one of the most successful within the participating nations. Over 75% of all Irish schools are currently involved and in excess of 1,600 schools have been awarded a green flag.
