Global Conference on Care
JAKARTA, Indonesia—The
Global Conference on Care held here March 15-17 is not over, for it has become a movement that has, is, and will continue to be felt far into the future of the Church of God and the people of Southeast Asia. The confer- ence was the result of a vision of Pastor Niko Njotorahardjo to train pastors for benevolent min- istry. God spoke to Pastor Niko and told him that he would be involved in a healing ministry and that he would evangelize through benevolence in Indone- sia and around the world. Pastor Niko shared his vision with Donnie Smith, international director of the Church of God Division of Care and Benevo- lence, and David Lorency, presi- dent of Operation Compassion. After many months of work and arduous prayer, the Conference on Care was conceived and its development brought to fruition. The planning brought
together 10,000 ministry lead- ers from Southeast Asia and 30 leading speakers from around the world, supported by 2,000 volunteers, to make the vision of Pastor Niko become reality. The meeting chartered 300 buses to transport delegates between their hotels and the Sentul International Conference Center. Hotel rooms for the delegates were provided free of charge, and airline tickets were

given to over 3,000 pastors trav- eling from remote islands. Twice each day the delegates were pro- vided free meals, and food was distributed to 5,000 families on the last day of the conference. In response to this massive act of benevolence, a tremen- dous outpouring of the Holy Spirit took place. As the praises from 10,000 attendees ascended to heaven, an old-time camp meeting resulted. Donnie Smith declared, “I refuse to interrupt what the Holy Spirit is trying to do here.” As the winds of blessings swept through the conference center, people were weeping, worshiping in the aisles, running to the altar, and lying prostrate before the Lord. A stamp of approval was given to this gathering by the Holy Trinity. Pastors attending the confer- ence will now take this ministry concept and conduct local train- ing events. After three years, leaders of the Conference on Care will return to celebrate the transformation that is occurring through benevolent ministry to the poor. —Coleman Peacock
