Quality is on track
Manufacturer of the SmartLF large format scanner, Colortrac, has been awarded an ISO 9001:2008 certificate for it business and quality management systems (QMS). This covers all aspects of the company's UK operations, including technical support and assembly of its wide format monochrome and colour document scanners and software. Adoption of the BMS procedures required for ISO 9001, has helped all departments contribute to higher quality and increased customer satisfaction. Following this strategy, the company achieved its highest ever unit sales in December 2009, demonstrating a healthy performance that bucks the tough conditions of its key markets.
Colortrac's sales and marketing director, Peter de Winter-Brown, said: “Our aim is to provide innovative, high performance large format imaging products at affordable prices. This depends on implementing effective, sustainable and ever improving quality management controls within our manufacturing, distribution and support systems. To be among the first UK companies to achieve the revised ISO 9001:2008 certificate shows we are on track.”

Revitalising RIP selection

Sign franchise specifies quality
Sign making franchise, Fastsigns International, has selected the Mimaki JV33 as its chosen solvent printer, opting for Graphic Printing Technologies (GPT) to supply and support this technology in the UK.
Fastsigns has 21 centres in the UK, with each one operating as a standalone business and all capable of delivering a range of graphics and display printing services. Solvent printing is a key component of this delivery and the selection of the Mimaki JV33 as the solvent printer of choice was made after testing in the US.
Managing director for Fastsigns UK, Garth Allison, said: “We insist that large format printing is in place as part of each franchise’s initial setup. This means we can fulfil our core
objective from each franchise, which is to provide a complete one-stop-shop for local and national businesses. The Mimaki JV33, together with the Mimaki cutting plotter, provides a versatile, reliable and cost-effective system, which is proving successful at franchises across the UK.”
Fastsigns also wants to ensure consistent delivery, installation, training and support, which is where GPT comes in. The company's help was instrumental in establishing the latest Fastsigns centre in Derby, for example, where GPT provided urgent technical assistance over the Christmas period.
