Inks get the thumbs up
After field testing across a range of Mimaki and Uniform wide-format solvent-based ink-jet printers, Tech8 has accepted Colorific inks onto its approved product programme. This removes warranty issues and provides extended cover for these machine and ink combinations. Colorific is the second supplier to be granted approval by Tech8, a status only granted when the product matches warranty specifications. Available from IGS UK, the Colorific products include Bio-U, Elite, Fresh and ProJ3 inks.
Tech8’s warranty schemes encompass most of the wide-format printers currently in use today, with manufacturers including Roland, HP, Mimaki and Mutoh’s own and private label products. The company's warranty services are targeted at those who want to reduce ink costs by changing to a third-party solution, thereby invalidating existing
manufacturer warranties. The approval of Colorific inks by Tech8 means that full warranty cover can be maintained.

Make the leap
Business Leap is new competition launched by Canon UK. It is designed to encourage printers to consider new ways to develop their businesses, or start new ones, and provides guidance in the creation of a comprehensive business plan. The competition invites UK printers and entrepreneurs to submit a formal business plan for a commercial venture that involves digital printing. The plans will be scrutinised and reduced to a shortlist of finalists, who will be individually interviewed by a panel of independent business consultants to select a winner and two runners- ups.
First prize is a fully configured, light production Canon imageRunner Advance C9070 Pro digital press, which the winner will be able to retain for three years, along with a bespoke business
consultancy package. Second prize is a 44in Canon imagePrograf large format solution, offered for three years with a bespoke business consultancy package. The third prize offers bespoke business consultancy from an industry expert. Head of product marketing, Canon Business Solutions, Canon UK, Trevor Dodsworth, explained: “To secure their long-term commercial future, printers need to take a more entrepreneurial approach. The industry has shifted and we are encouraging our customers to adapt to this change – to make a leap into the future of print.” Download and complete the entry form for the competition on the Canon Ipex 2010 microsite by the end of July 2010.
