WHAT’S NEW
Flexible production goes large
The Virtu RR50 UV-curable roll- to-roll ink-jet printer manufactured by WP Digital is now available from Digital Print Innovations (DPI). With the ability to print on flexible material up to five metres wide at speeds up to 320m2/h, the RR50 is not only productive but offers 1,200dpi addressable resolution in configurations including six colours plus white, making it ideal for display businesses.
Indoor and outdoor applications are both possible, including point- of-sale, vehicle wraps, banners and flags, as well as creating billboards
and hoardings in one piece. The Virtu RR50 benefits from some practical developments in ink-jet technology. Linear motors eliminate belts, instead running the heads on a monorail-type system. This reduces traditional problems, such as vibration, while improving acceleration and dot placement. Other sensible production features include an in-built, multi-station X- Y tool for accurate cutting and an anti-static device on the head- assembly, as well as multi-roll capability.
Available in 36 or 48 print-head configurations, the Virtu RR50 ink- feed system provides for six litres per colour. This allows the user to benefit from bulk prices with less time wasted changing the inks. The UV-curable, pigmented inks are said to provide durability while also being VOC-free.

Automated digital finishing for all
Designed to automate the entire finishing process, EskoArtwork's new Kongsberg i-XE10 Automated meets growing demand for finishing small- format, short-run digital printed materials.
Enhanced automation features include a redesigned sheet feeder system and stacker, both of which can help digital printing companies bring production in- house, reducing costs and improving turnaround times. Automatic waste removal also means the machine can run unattended.
The Kongsberg i-XE10
Automated finishing solution can be used for a range of creative finishing tasks: shaped business
cards, creasing and cutting brochures with a special cut-outs, folders, small signs and displays and even digitally printed sheet labels that require kiss and through cutting operations. CAM business development manager, Einar Ek, said: “We’ve seen an increase in the use of creative applications printed on digital presses and Web2Print customized product offerings. Typical production runs for such items range from one hundred to several thousand, depending on the application. The Kongsberg i- XE10 Automated handles these jobs with minimal operator intervention. There are few limits to the type of items that can be produced, offering customers a significant competitive edge.” The solution is complemented by a variety of tool stations suitable for materials including paper, thin plastic, carton, vinyl and polycarbonate. The Kongsberg i-XE10 can handle a maximum sheet size of 900 by 1,200mm at a maximum speed of 80m/min.

Inks make the switch simpler
Independent UK-based ink manufacturer, ITL, has extended its range of replacement inks for wide-format printers with three new products. The first, available for Epson-based solvent engines, is ITL’s Versatile Textile and Vinyl (VTV), a dual-purpose textile and vinyl ink-jet ink in CMYK, orange and green. The formulation can be used on either substrate
without the inconvenience of changing inks.
ITL’s MS5 True Solvent is a colour-matched ink formulated to improve profitability on Mimaki’s JV5 printer range. Said to offer resistance to scratching, abrasion and alcohol damage, MS5 inks offer a wide colour gamut and strong individual colour density and brilliance, as well as 24 months’ outdoor durability without fading in UV light. MS5 is available in CMYK, as well as light cyan (Lc) and light magenta (Lm). Change over does not require the machine to be flushed or new profiles to be created. Finally, i-BiO is a new mild- solvent ink set designed for Mimaki, Mutoh, Roland and
Uniform machines which employ Epson’s DX3 or DX4 print-heads. The ink’s primary qualification is its use of renewable corn oil derivatives in combination with toxicologically safe solvents, resulting in biodegradability and minimal VOC production. Output is said to offer pure, vibrant colour on both coated and uncoated media. No additional lamination is required for exterior use. All can be supplied globally, in cartridges or in bulk feed options, representing a cost-effective option for sign-makers and display producers looking to lower costs but maintain production standards.

Push down on pop-up costs
Pop-up display specialist, Seal Graphics, has launched two new films, both economical versions of the company’s best-sellers. Base Stoplight 190 and Jet Guard Crystal Lite can be used together as part of a complete display solution, or as stand-alone products.
The first is a low cost
solution for pop-up displays and short term applications using heated roller laminators. Like its more expensive stablemate, Stoplight films, it contains a light-blocking core.
The second is a lightweight overlaminate with a crystal textured finish, also for use with heated laminators. It boasts excellent scratch-resistance and is suitable for general
