GAC at the Institute of Politics
The Institute of Politics (IOP) at Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government hosted the February meeting of the CCC Government Affairs Committee with Cambridge City Manager Robert Healy. IOP Executive Director Bill Purcell, who is the former Mayor of Nashville, Tennessee, has been discussing collaboration with the CCC since early last year. In his welcoming remarks, Purcell said that he appreciates this opportunity to introduce one of the most successful and accomplished city managers in the country to members of the Harvard community and to bring Chamber members to the IOP.

Purcell introduced a number of people from the Harvard and Kennedy School community including Katherine Lapp, Executive Vice President at Harvard University; Jacqueline O’Neill, Harvard’s Marshall; Manny Diaz, a current fellow at the IOP and the former Mayor of Miami, Florida; Professor Julie Wilson, Harry Kahn Senior Lecturer in Social Policy and Director of the Malcolm Wiener Center for Social Policy; and David Luberoff, Executive Director of the Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston. Several Kennedy School students also attended, including Cambridge City Councillor Leland Cheung and former School Committee member Luc Schuster.

City Manager Healy was accompanied by newly elected Mayor David Maher and the Manager was introduced by GAC Chair and Chamber Board member Dennis Carlone of Carlone & Associates. Other Chamber Board members in attendance included Brian Burke of Microsoft; Sheldon Cohen of Community Mapping; John DiGiovanni of Trinity Properties; Sarah Gallup of MIT; and Tom Lucey of Harvard University. Chamber member Jack Wofford also attended, returning to the IOP where he was a fellow in 1966-67 and Associate Director from 1967-1969. The Chamber thanks the IOP for hosting this event and looks forward to future collaborations. We also thank John DiGiovanni from Trinity Property Management for providing parking to attendees.
