Real estate professionals: this is for you
Are you part of the real estate sector? A broker/agent, property manger/developer, rental agency, builder, mortgage broker or other? Are you in compliance with the new Massachusetts regulations requiring protection of information about MA businesses and residents? That equates to information about your customers. Would you like to have the tools necessary to be compliant with this regulation? If so, this workshop is for you.
On March 1, a new regulation went into effect requiring all entities that maintain specific records to have a plan in place to protect customers, vendors, staff and you and your business from identify theft. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a one-person operation or a larger firm, failure to comply can result in fines of $5,000 per stolen record—and fees can be assessed if you have not met the specific requirements of this regulation. This includes records in electronic and paper form.
The Cambridge Chamber of Commerce is pleased to offer a comprehensive half-day workshop that will provide attendees with the information, documentation and training that is necessary to comply with the MA 201 CMR 17, the most rigorous data protection law in the United States. Participants will be provided with a layman’s explanation of the law’s administrative, technological and physical security requirements and suggestions on how to revise their practices to lessen their exposure to the law.
In addition, each attendee will receive the following materials that are necessary to comply:
•Documentation on how to assess internal and external risk to personal information;
•A comprehensive Written Information Security Program;
• Third Party Service Provider Acknowledgement Form.
The steps you must take are unique to your organization and industry. There is no “cookie cutter” approach for all businesses to comply. To ensure that this workshop provides the information necessary to like entities we are tailoring each session to specific sectors (watch your calendar for upcoming programs pertaining to professional services and the medical industry). You could spend thousands of dollars and many hours away from your business attempting to gain compliance. The CCC wants to take care of this for you with one stop, one program and one-on-one advice with a compliance specialist. Make it easy on yourself!
This program will be held on Monday, May 3, 2010 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Residence Inn Cambridge by Marriott, 6 Cambridge Center. The cost is $375 for members and $750 for non-members. Register now at www.cambridgechamber.org/chamber/viewevent.html? id=275.
