Help bring General Maczek’s map of Scotland back to life

An intriguing reminder of the co-operation of the Scots and the Poles during the war lies neglected in the gorunds of a Peeblesshire hotel. General Maczek’s Great Polish Map of

Scotland is a stunning piece of engineering and design and was created as a thanksyou to the Scottish people who provided a welcome and hospitality to their Polish wartime guests, some of whom remained in Scotland, including the General himself. The outdoor map is a representation of the

Scottish coastline and when it was installed in 1975 under the supervision of General Maczek it had working waterways of the Scottish rivers flowing out to the sea. Now a committee has been formed to

restore the map to its former glory. Two pre-launch displays will be open to viewing in Penicuik Town Hall on Saturday April 17 and Saturday April 25. The restoration project is being launched

with a Great Map viewing and an on-site exhibition at 2pm in the grounds of Barony Castle, Eddleston EH45 8QW, followed by the Inaugural General Meeting at 3pm on Sunday April 25.

Three Polish doctors are pioneering a medical procedure that is being hailed as a breakthrough in the treatment of multiple sclerosis. Patients from all over

the world are travelling to the Euromedic Clinic in Katowice in Southern Poland for the operation carried out by vascular surgeons Thomasz Ludyga, Marian Simka and Marek Kazibudski. The treatment

tackles a narrowing of the blood vessels in the neck, head or upper chest, which affects the flow of blood between the brain and the heart. Many MS patients

who have undergone the technique developed by Dr Paulo Zamboni from the University of Ferrera in Italy claim to have seen an improvement in their condition. While not regarded

as a cure for MS, the CCSVI treatment is said
