Kenyans triumph in cross country event
500 athletes from 59 nations took part in the World Cross Country Championships in Bydgoszcz at the end of March. The event was an
overwhelming triumph for Kenya, whose runners won both the men’s and women’s senior titles and also the men’s and women’s team events. Four of the top six
women were Kenyans as were five of the top nine men. Best for Poland was
Katarzyna Kowalska, pictured below, second from left, who finished in 36th place. Mo Farah, in 21st
place, was best finisher for the UK. The championship
was the third world class event held in Bydgoszcz. Jerzy Skucha, President of the Polish Athletics Association, said his goal is to establish Bydgoszcz as a regular venue for world class athletic events.
