FC POLONIA GLASGOW
One of Scotland’s newest football teams is made up entirely of Polish players. FC Polonia Glasgow
were formed at the start of the 2009/10 season when Grzeg Siekiekski put a team together to compete in the Glasgow Sunday Amateur Football League to help young Poles integrate into the local community. After a shaky start to the season which saw
them lose their first five matches, the team have now begun to gel and produce results. They are currently in
the lower reaches of the Division 1 West section, but Grzeg is optimistic that his men will soon be heading up the table. Grzeg, who owns the Staropolska restaurant in the Sikorski Club in Parkgrove Terrace, Glasgow, said: “We have some very good
young players coming through and our later results have been better.” The team, who play
home matches at John Paul Centre in Summerston, have been organising fundraisers recently and have welcomed sponsorship from four local businesses. Any businesses who
would like to help the team can contact Grzeg on 07756470564.
The Polish Association in Aberdeen has launched a loyalty scheme to offer cardholders cheaper prices from local businesses. Companies in the
Aberdeenshire area are being invited to sign up for the loyalty scheme to offer special discounts to members of the Polish community in return for promotion from PA
Aberdeen. The invitation to the businesses says: “We believe that this could be a great way to extend the base of your customers and promote your products and services . “We will promote
companies who agree to offer a special discount to our members.” A number of city
partners have already
taken up the offer including English for Everyone, Union Street; Hairdresser Dorota, George Street; Thomas Quality Butcher, Rosemount Place; Hairdresser Catzy, Marischal Street. Applications to join
the scheme can be downloaded from the website at http://www.
