than drift idly about. Instead, everyone
was content to enjoy the weather and see
how the day would play out." Looking
back now, that patience was rewarded
and a fun day of racing ensued.
At 11:40 the cruisers started, in very
light air and the fleet watched to see what
happened. On schedule, 30 minutes later
the multihulls started their race and start-
sequence jockeying commenced for the
next start. The wind-angle and the line
created a challenging combination in that
it would be difficult, if not impossible, to
execute an effective port start. As such,
the fleets aligned on a massive parade
of starboard boats.
One boat did try to buck this trend.

the start box, but it was clear - Korrina
Korrina had been involved in a collision
with artemis, and then immediately
she was involved in a second collision
with Jam.
In light breeze, less than 3 knots,
the competitors struggled to power-up,
retain competitive positioning on the
line, and retain steerage as they jockeyed
to and fro in the start area. The start
gun fired, and the OCS flag went up. In
the confusion and massive collection
of boats in the B/C start, sail numbers
were hailed as being over early. Anxious
sailors ducked the line in light air and
