On September 30th the town
held a grand launching to present to
their heritage-minded citizens The
Gig Harbor BoatShop, a non-profit
enterprise charged with the mission of
keeping alive the past. GHB will operate
to preserve, interpret and perpetuate
Gig Harbor’s working waterfront.
John McMillan, treasurer, explained,
“The community and bond tasks us
with what traditionally happened here:
boat building, restoring historic vessels,
repairing boats. We’ll handpick projects
that fit our facility and time.”
The all-day launching party
included a dedication ceremony
attended by first gentleman Mike
Gregoire, several other dignitaries and
a collection of proud citizens. Lita Dawn
Stanton, the city’s Historic Preservation
Coordinator, told the crowd, “Gig
