One pass does it all
Printing white and CMYK inks in the same pass is
the holy grail of printwear producers. Available from
U
sers of DTG direct to product ink jet
printers will have an advantage over
their competitors with the launch of
YES, DTG's direct to product ink jet printers
One Pass Fast. This new development has
achieved what was previously thought
promise a solution with One Pass Fast
impossible - to print white and CMYK inks
during the same pass.
Traditionally, before you can print a
coloured t-shirt using ink jet equipment, you
must first put down a layer of white ink, just
like with screen printing. The software decides
where the white ink should be and, on the first
run, prints only the white ink onto the shirt. On
the second run, or pass, the CMYK ink is laid
down and the coloured image is produced.
With One Pass Fast these two passes are
combined into one, effectively halving the print
time.
Distributor for UK and Ireland, Your
Embroidery Services (YES), is delighted with
this addition to its DTG catalogue. A
spokesman said: “Our technicians together
with those from DTG have been quietly
working away in the background on this. Most
people in the industry never imagined that it
would be possible to print white and CYMK
inks at the same time, but it goes to show
what can be achieved when you have
management and technical staff that are never
satisfied with what they have got.”
Together, DTG and YES seem always to be
looking for the next development that will give
their customers the edge. With One Pass Fast
they aim to offer a gigantic leap in both
technology and production. In effect DTG
users will be able to produce up to double that
of other similar printers or, to put it another
way, halve the unit cost. Apart from the effect
One Pass Fast white ink and CMYK passes are combined into one, halving print time
this will have on the immediate market, it
could also have a ripple effect on other
industries due to increased competitiveness.
One Pass Fast is patent pending so the
technology will remain in the sole domain of
DTG users.
Since it first appeared, ink jet technology
has been the subject of disbelief. Putting ink
directly onto cotton, developing a white ink
suitable for ink jet printers, curing the white
ink without using heat and without moving it
from the printer have all been met with
disbelief. With this latest advance YES and
DTG have once again come through for their
customers.
One thing is true it seems: printers who
want to be up there with the leaders in this
type of technology and compete at the highest
level will have to use DTG One Pass Fast
because its creators believe nothing else on
the market can keep up with the level of
production that it can achieve.
Printers using the technology could halve unit cost
