Treatment
Know Your Options Once you’re diagnosed, it’s time to discuss treatment options. Your doctor may start with:
Oral medicines— some are used to form a protective coating on your bladder wall. T is repairs defects in the lining and reduces bladder spasms. Other medicines relieve pain and discomfort.
Bladder distention—liquid is sent through a tube called a catheter to your bladder. T is stretches the bladder to increase how much urine it can hold, and to reduce pain.
Your doctor may also try these treatments:
Bladder instillation—liquid medicine is sent through a catheter to reduce swelling and prevent muscle spasms. (continued on next page)
No single treatment works for every- one. The goal of treatment is to reduce symptoms so you can function at your best, despite having IC.
