Treatment for Prostate Cancer
Your cancer treatment will depend on the stage of your cancer, your age and your overall health. You and your doctor will work together to develop a treatment plan that is best for you. Options include:
Watchful waiting or active surveillance—Your doctor will test you regularly to watch the cancer, but not actively treat it.
Surgery—Your doctor may remove your prostate, and possibly nearby lymph nodes.
Radiation therapy —Your doctor uses high-energy rays to kill cancer cells. This can be done from outside or inside your body using tiny implants called seeds.
Hormone therapy—Your doctor blocks the male hormones that cancer cells need to grow. This can be done with medicines or with surgery to remove the testicles where the hormones are made.
Chemotherapy—Your doctor uses drugs, given to you through a vein, to kill cancer cells.
